Yes! Because PRP is derived from your own blood, there is minimal risk of rejection or adverse effects. At Oviedo Med Spa, we follow strict protocols to ensure a sterile and precise treatment, maximizing both safety and effectiveness.

PRP injections are generally well-tolerated, but some mild side effects can occur as part of the body’s natural healing response. Common side effects include temporary redness, swelling, bruising, tenderness, or pain at the injection site. These effects typically subside within a few days.

Rarely, there may be a slight risk of infection or prolonged irritation, but following proper aftercare minimizes these risks. If you experience any unusual or prolonged discomfort, our team is here to help.

PRP injections are widely used for both aesthetic and medical treatments, with PRP injections for hair loss being one of the most popular applications. By stimulating dormant hair follicles and increasing blood flow to the scalp, PRP helps improve hair thickness and density while slowing down hair shedding. In addition to hair restoration, PRP is also highly effective for:

Most patients experience little to no discomfort from their PRP treatment but may experience slight swelling and soreness for 48 hours to the treated areas afterward. To ensure the most comfortable experience for our patients, however, a topical numbing cream can be applied to ease any potential discomfort to applicable treatment areas.

After injection, you shouldn’t need much time to recover and can return to your daily activities quickly. You may experience swelling and redness around the targeted area, but they should disappear within a day. If your PRP is combined with microneedling, healing may take longer.

You should begin noticing improvements in your skin within two to three weeks following your first PRP treatment. PRP treatments for hair loss, however, may take three to six months to see the full effect.

The amount of injection appointments will depend on your skin condition and skincare goals, but patients generally need three treatments to achieve maximum results. The team at Oviedo Med Spa will assess your skin and determine how many treatments will be needed.

Pre-Care Instructions

• Remember, we are creating inflammation, to stimulate healing and tissue regeneration. For this reason, we ask that you AVOID taking Aspirin, Motrin, Ibuprofen, Aleve (all non-steroidal and steroidal anti-inflammatory agents), Gingko Biloba, Garlic, Flax Seed Oil, Cod liver Oil, Vitamin A, Vitamin E, or any other essential fatty acids for 2 weeks prior to and 3 weeks after your treatment.
• You may take Tylenol (acetaminophen) for discomfort or pain.
• MINIMIZE: Alcohol, caffeine, and cigarettes for 2 days before and after treatment. In addition to being hazardous to your health, smoking increases your risk of complications and delays healing.
• Maintain a healthy diet and drink 4 - 6 large glasses of water the day of the treatment. Continue water intake the first week after.
• If you have an active cold sore/fever blister, treatment will need to be delayed. If you have any questions regarding cold sores, please contact our office at the number listed below.

Post-Care Instructions

• It is normal to experience: Bruising, Redness, Itching, Soreness, and Swelling that may last from 3-10 days following your procedure.
• Do NOT touch, press, rub, or manipulate the treated area (s) for 24 hours after your treatment.
• If you experience discomfort or pain you may take Tylenol or other Acetaminophen products.
• Do not wash the treated area or take a shower for 12 hours after your treatment.
• Use cold packs for 20 minutes every 2 hours the day of treatment. Continue 20 minutes every 3 - 4 hours the day after treatment, then discontinue icing.
  Do not use any lotions, creams, or make-up for at least 24 hours after your treatment.
• AVOID: vigorous exercise, sun and heat exposure for 5 days post treatment.
• End results depend on many factors, including the aggressiveness of the treatment, adherence to post treatment care regimen, proper nutrition and good general health. The most important being the degree of cumulative sun and environmental damage to your skin and tissues.
• Treatments are designed to maximize the results of the treatment within safe and predictable parameters. The number of treatments needed cannot always be accurately predicted, even under the best of circumstances. Appropriate intervals between treatments are needed to allow the healing process to complete the cycle. The next treatment is then decided upon, given the results of the previous one.
• Good general health is the key to excellent and predictable outcomes by supporting your cells to work well and promote healing.
• Any successful skin rejuvenation treatment is cumulative in the overall improvement of skin health, and therefore the skin’s appearance.
