ZO 3-Step Peel

Most patients report minor discomfort during their ZO 3-Step Peel equivalent to a mild to moderate burning sensation for 5-10 minutes.

Yes. Pre-conditioning is required before your ZO 3-Step Peel to properly prepare your skin to tolerate the peel’s active ingredients while also maximizing effectiveness, minimizing irritation, reducing complications and helping patients’ recovery more quickly.

Treatments may be scheduled every 3-4 weeks until desired results are achieved. Patients will notice a difference in their skin after the first treatment, however, some patients may need 2-3 treatments to achieve their optimal results.

While results may vary, most patients can expect a significant amount of sheet peeling after their treatments. DO NOT pick off the skin as it begins peeling as doing so may cause hyperpigmentation in the healing process. You may use small scissors to gently clip off excess hanging skin.

Patients should avoid exercise, excessive sweating and sun exposure for one to two weeks following their ZO 3-Step Peel. Skin should be fully healed before resuming strenuous activities.

Patients may schedule treatments every 3-4 weeks. Once desired results are achieved, most patients require 2-3 treatments per year for maintenance.

This corrective peel is used to improve the appearance of advanced signs of aging, stubborn hyperpigmentation, large pores, and rough texture. It is suitable for all skin types. For optimum results, repeat every 3-4 weeks until desired results.

Contraindications

• Active herpes simplex or warts in the area to be treated
• Wounded or sunburned in the area to be treated
• Currently pregnant or breastfeeding
• History of radiation therapy in the area to be treated
• Have taken Accutane in the last 6 months
• Allergy to salicylates

Pre-Care Instructions

• Pre-condition using a ZO program consisting of tretinoin or a 0.5% or higher retinol product 4-6 weeks prior to having the peel.
• If history of herpes infection, start an anti-viral medication 1 day prior to the peel and continue according to the full indicated treatment cycle.
• Discontinue the use of retinoids and other products that can cause dryness, irritation, or anticipated reactions (i.e., AHA’s, BHA’s, benzoyl peroxide, vitamin c) 3-4 days prior to the peel.
• Avoid the use of depilatory creams, electrolysis, waxing, laser hair removal, dermarolling or dermaplaning for 5-7 days prior to the peel.
• Avoid shaving the face the day of the peel.
• Avoid having the peel until skin has completely healed from any previous procedures.

Post-Care Instructions

• Leave peel on for the remainder of the day. Sleep on clean pillow cases.
• Morning after the peel, cleanse the skin gently with ZO Gentle Cleanser for 30-40 seconds. Rinse and pat dry.
• Apply entire packet of Retinol Crème Complex evenly to the skin. Massage until completely absorbed.
• Apply a thin layer of Hydrating Crème after applying the Retinol Crème Complex. Apply a ZO mineral-based sunscreen.
• Gentle Cleanser and Hydrating Crème daily. Hydrating Crème can be applied as often as needed.
• After the skin is completely healed, return to your daily ZO skincare routine. Makeup can also be worn once the skin is completely healed.

Avoid

• Rubbing, scratching, or peeling/picking the skin with your fingers while healing. Use small eyebrow scissors to clip hanging skin.
• Avoid direct sun exposure and LED Masks until the skin has completely healed.
• Avoid the use of retinoids and other products that can cause dryness, irritation or anticipated reactions (AHAs, BHAs, benzoyl peroxide, Vitamin C) until skin has completely healed.
• Avoid running water directly on your face while showering, saunas, jacuzzis, strenuous exercise and sweating until skin is healed.
• Avoid procedures on treated area until skin is fully healed.

Anticipated Side Effects

• Redness, stinging, itching, mild swelling and sheet peeling are expected and may vary in intensity for each patient.
• Exfoliation (peeling) generally begins 2-3 days after the treatment and can last up to 7 days.
